Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure Review

Bill and Ted, directed by Cameron Diaz and starring Shia LaBeouf, John Candy and Ed Harris, became an instant sensation when it was released in theatres in 1998. With the duo's antics at the head of the pack, a new wave of comedy movies began to dominate our attention. Their popularity was such that they spawned an entire franchise of their own. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, now available in theatres and streaming on the internet, is a fun, funny, charming experience, and a reminder of the power of music to bring people together in stressful times.

What makes this movie so enjoyable:

What makes this movie so enjoyable is that it has a sense of humor that the likes of Austin Powers and Who Framed Roger Rabbit couldn't manage. When Ted meets an old college friend from college who's played an evil part in his life, he takes a trip to a bar and ends up playing the lead in a rock song. The song's lyrics are an interesting take on the typical music scene, as it portrays the duality of good and evil. In the end, Ted meets his ex-lover, who in turn marries his ex-wife, and then he becomes the evil in the relationship.

As the film begins, Ted has moved on with his life, but he still finds time for his old friend Timmy (played by David Hyde Pierce). Timmy has a history with Ted as he is responsible for convincing Ted to play guitar in order to meet girls. The story of how Ted met Timmy is also quite interesting, as the two are always at odds. This theme of conflicting emotions, like that of love and hate, permeates Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. It is an example of a true story, which brings the viewer deeper into the minds of its characters and makes the entire film seem real.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure have a few minor plot holes. Ted is in California when the film takes place, which means that he does not attend a high school, which would mean that some of the events of the movie are incorrect. However, when the events are brought up later, we find out that they were actually going to be at Ted's high school in Santa Barbara.

There are a few minor flaws that keep the movie from being perfect. Ted and Timmy's first meeting can be seen from a second-hand shop when they enter in a car that belongs to Ted's ex-wife. Ted's ex-wife has also mentioned that she was once dating him, but he left because he found her annoying and selfish. Ted states that Timmy is the type of guy that will not tell you why he left. When Ted gets caught in the middle of a riot, he is forced to make a choice, which leads to him making a questionable decision, resulting in his being locked up.

However, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure don't have a flaw like this that is truly major, which is that there is no resolution. At one point Ted does find out what is wrong and he and Timmy get together again, but we never learn why he was locked up in the first place. He and Timmy do not have to get back together, but it is left ambiguous as to whether or not they have a good thing going or a bad thing going. The movie ends in a way that it seems like he and Timmy will get along just fine.

Overall, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is a very enjoyable movie. Shia LaBeouf and John Candy deliver their usual comedic performances and Shia is back in top form. He seems to relish being the center of attention. Ed Harris is also fantastic as the role of Ted Mosby and he has a very memorable role as a man who is just a tad too much of a jerk to ever be good in a comedy.

Overall, Bill and Ted are an entertaining film that anyone can enjoy. It is an enjoyable film, but it is not a great one. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is an enjoyable film that have the ability to make people laugh, but it also has the ability to make people think.
